KCA Deutag creates 300 offshore drilling jobs as it looks to man two of its new category J class jackup drilling rigs.

A Spokeswoman from KCA Deutag confirmed the news to Offshore Post Friday, saying: “Our business in Norway has begun the recruitment process for operational staff”.

The contract for the two drilling rigs was signed, back in 2013 with Norwegian oil major Statoil, for an initial 8 years at a value of NOK 5.2billion (US$ 900million).

However the deal also included 4 further options, each lasting 3 years; which if used could see the contract last for a total duration of 20 years and have a total value of NOK 12.8billion (US$ 2.2billion).

The Spokeswoman added: “Approximately 150 offshore personnel per rig will be required. Some of these personnel are already employed either as part of the organisation which supports the building process or in preparing the rigs for operations.”

“In addition, we will also need to recruit operational personnel onshore.”

The news comes after the company announced a US$1 billion offshore drilling deal with oil and gas supermajor BP at the end of 2015.
