Siegwerk has secured a European patent for a functional primer technology. The technology is designed to improve recycled plastic quality by reducing discoloration, odor, and contamination. Siegwerk says the patented primer has been validated across multiple substrates, ink systems, and packaging formats.
Aliplast has opened a €48.8 million (US$55 million) rigid plastics recycling facility in Modena, Italy, with annual capacity of up to 30,000 metric tons. The R3GID plant uses Nextchem’s NX Replast technology to produce high-quality recycled polymers for packaging and other applications.
Südpack Medica’s new mono-PE sterile barrier targets pharmaceutical applications requiring high mechanical performance and low migration risk. The recyclable solution is designed as an alternative to PE/PA/PE structures containing polyamide and adhesives that can complicate recycling. Südpack says its LCA shows the mono-PE structure can cut CO2e emissions by more than 50% versus an equivalent PE/PA/PE structure.
International Paper (IP) is in early-stage talks with bidders over a potential sale of its EMEA packaging business. The company is continuing preparations to spin off the unit, which combines its regional operations with DS Smith. The review comes as IP faces soft packaging demand linked to weaker consumer spending and housing activity.
Krones has opened a second plant in Taicang, China, expanding its manufacturing, bottling engineering, testing, and service capabilities in the region. The two Taicang facilities now form Krones’ largest production site outside Germany.
