The agricultural minister of Burkina Faso has said that the state will reach an agreement with Groupe Avril to assist in developing its soybean cultivation and production of oilseeds and vegetable proteins.

LeFigaro.fr reports that on a recent visit to France organised by Avril and the Agropolis foundation, the body dedicated to French agrifood science, Burkina Faso’s agriculture minister Jacob Ouedraogo, said, “I wanted to see what kind of support is offered to growers [by the Avril group], and how much a model could be adapted to Burkina Faso.”

He added, “I believe we will establish a partnership” with the Avril group.

“The problem [that afflicts Burkina Faso agriculture] is the organisation of the sector, and the lack of involvement of producers in its development. We wish to first establish infrastructure which will allow for produce that will be consumed domestically.”

A deal between the west-African nation and Groupe Avril would constitute a phase of the French firm’s expansion into Africa.
