Univar Acquires Key Chemical, Inc.

/PRNewswire/ – Univar USA Inc., a leading distributor of basic chemicals, specialty products, and related chemistry services, announced today it has acquired all of the outstanding stock of Key Chemical, Inc., one of the largest suppliers of hydrofluosilicic acid (fluoride) in the U.S. Key Chemical also supplies other chemistries to the municipal water, industrial, and oil and gas markets. The acquired business will be combined with Univar USA’s operations.
 
“Key Chemical helps strengthen Univar’s leading position in the municipal water treatment market by adding fluoride to our offering to customers,” said Univar President and Chief Executive Officer Erik Fyrwald. “Fluoride is an important part of water chemistry as it is proven effective and safe in preventing tooth decay, and we are thrilled to build on Key’s strong capabilities and offer their tailored fluoride products to our municipal water treatment customers in the U.S.”
 
Founded in 2002, Key Chemical specializes in blends of hydrofluosilicic acid that are UL certified to meet NSF/ANSI Standard 60 for use in water treatment fluoridation. Through a secondary storage facility, the company also has the ability to store up to 500,000 gallons of inventory, providing security of supply for its regional customer base. The company has headquarters in Waxhaw, N.C.
