Gases and engineering company Linde Americas is consolidating its headquarters for North and South America in Bridgewater, it announced Thursday.
The unit of The Linde Group, which currently has headquarters operations in Murray Hill and New Providence, will be moving to a new facility at the Somerset Corporate Center, it said in a news release.
“We want to provide our employees with a state-of-the-art work environment that will enable Linde to safely and reliably serve its customers and achieve profitable growth in the Americas,” Pat Murphy, president of Linde Americas, said in a prepared statement. “Our company has maintained a presence in Murray Hill since the 1940s. Over the years, we have made substantial investments and have expanded our presence in this location. After an exhaustive study, however, we concluded that Linde now requires a new office space solution to meet current and future needs.
“The new facility in Bridgewater offers a more modern and appropriately sized work environment that will enable Linde to remain in New Jersey, close to the epicenter of where our employees currently live.”
In January, Linde was approved by the state Economic Development Association for a 10-year, $11 million Grow New Jersey award as an incentive to stay in-state. The EDA said at the time that a move to Bridgewater would retain 450 jobs in New Jersey and create another 150.
“We are extremely grateful that Linde chose to stay in New Jersey and open its new modern headquarters in Bridgewater,” Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno said in a statement. “This move will help support the company’s future as it grows and thrives here. Linde has had a presence in the United States for over a century and has become a strong link in New Jersey’s economy.”
Murphy cited New Jersey’s pro-business government policies and commitment to public-private partnership for economic success as some of the reasons it chose to stay in-state.
The move to the SJP Properties-owned Somerset Corporate Center is scheduled to begin this summer, Linde said. Murphy said headquarters employees will relocate to Bridgewater beginning then, but certain teams will remain in Murray Hill for at least two years.
