Asahi Glass and Japan Material Technologies Corp. (JMTC; Tokyo) on Tuesday announced the establishment of a joint venture company, JMTC Enzyme, which aims to commercialize biochemical technologies that produce organic acids, such as lactic acid, from biomass.

JMTC has 92% in the new company and Asahi Glass 8%.

JMTC Enzyme will commercialize the technologies by acquiring part of the intellectual property for organic acid production based on Schizosaccharomyces pombe developed by Asahi Glass and by using engineers seconded from Asahi Glass.

In addition, the new company will proceed with commercializing D-lactic acid, for which Asahi Glass has already completed basic development, as well as continuously develop other organic acid production technologies.
