/CNW Telbec/ – Parmalat Canada will consolidate its cheese production and transfer the Marieville plant operations to its facility in Victoriaville, Quebec. The plant in Marieville will cease operations on September 30, 2015.

“To meet changing market requirements, we will be consolidating our cheese manufacturing operations. This decision will allow us to improve and standardize our processes. A new production line for mozzarella will be installed in our Victoriaville manufacturing facility which, following significant investments, will become Parmalat’s sole cheese production facility in the province of Quebec. This decision will allow us to create 15 new jobs and keep the existing 410 jobs in Victoriaville,” said Jean-Paul Quiblier, Vice President of Operations at Parmalat Canada.

This decision will affect 92 employees of the Marieville cheese facility who will receive support for career transition. Several employees are eligible for retirement and some could be eligible for early retirement. The new jobs created in Victoriaville will be offered to Marieville employees who are willing to be relocated.

Parmalat Canada recognizes the impact the plant closure on its employees. “We have loyal and devoted employees, and we will offer them the help they need to get through this transitional period,” said Jean-Paul Quiblier.
