Heinz, which has recently revealed plans to shut down its potato factory in Norfolk, has appointed a new managing director for the UK and Ireland.

Jan Kruise, managing director for Heinz Central, North & East Europe (CNE), has been appointed as the new managing director for Heinz UK & Ireland.

Kruise, who will report directly to Heinz Europe Zone president Matt Hill, joined Heinz in 2002 after 13 years in Unilever.

He succeeds Phil Jones who is leaving Heinz to pursue other opportunities.

Earlier this month, Heinz said it plans to shut down its potato factory in Norfolk in a move which places hundreds of jobs at risk.

The proposed closure of the Westwick factory in North Walsham, which employs 200 staff, came as the company’s licence to manufacture Aunt Bessie’s frozen potato products for the William Jackson Food Group nears its end in April 2015 and will not be renewed.

Heinz said it was “deeply disappointed” to make the announcement but said that there is not sufficient manufacturing volume to keep the factory operational.
