Evian introduces label-free, fully-recyclable water bottle

Danone’s Evian bottled water brand has unveiled a new label-free, fully-recyclable water bottle which is made from 100% recycled materials, with the exception of the bottle cap.

The new bottle features an engraved logo instead of a plastic label or sleeve. Evian claims that the bottle could be a solution for e-commerce channels or hospitality locations, where there is no need for barcode labelling.

The new design will be available as a 400ml bottle and features an ‘Evian pink’ bottle cap; both firsts for the Evian range. The new bottle will be distributed across select hotels, restaurants and hospitality sites in France from early July, and will be available in additional countries from September 2020.

This new development forms part of the brand’s long-term sustainability strategy, and follows on from Evian’s announcement earlier this year that its operations had been certified as carbon neutral by the Carbon Trust.

One of the brand’s major aims is to ensure that the Evian brand is ‘fully circular’ by 2025, and Evian claims that the launch of the label-free bottle is a step towards that goal.

Shweta Harit, Evian global brand vice-president, said: “Today’s announcement positions Evian as a pioneer in sustainable design solutions, with the bottle made from 100% recycled materials and label-free, acting as tangible proof of our commitment to becoming a fully circular brand by 2025.

“It’s now more important than ever for us to bring consumers our natural mineral water in the more sustainable way as we owe everything to nature.”

Emmanuelle Giraudon, engineer in research and innovation at Danone, added: “This new innovation is so exciting as it is not just any bottle; it is recyclable, made from 100% recycled plastic, and label-free all in one that has been specifically designed to minimise environmental impact.

“Thanks to the engraving, we can preserve the natural beauty of the bottle and be closer to the water’s purity. We wanted to keep the “Evian touch” when designing the bottle, and we created a new pink cap especially for this bottle. Our revolution makes old plastic the ultimate new innovation.”
