Nouryon (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) announced that it will invest in its facility in Ningbo, China, to significantly increase the capacity of organic peroxide products Perkadox 14 and Trigonox 101. With this investment, Nouryon will double the annual production capacity to 6,000 tons each for Perkadox® 14 and Trigonox 101 organic peroxides by mid-2024.

These essential products will support growing regional and global demand for a variety of applications including hygiene products and non-woven textiles used in health care, including face masks. Additional applications include plastics recycling, and a wide range of rubber goods, including rubber hoses, seals, cable insulation, athletic shoe soles, and yoga mats.

“Asia Pacific is a key region for Nouryon, and China plays an important role in our growth journey towards increased customer satisfaction and volumes. Our customers rely on our existing network of manufacturing facilities and innovative technologies, and we are pleased to build more capacity to meet growing customer demand,” said Johan Landfors, Executive Vice President Strategy and Technology Solutions at Nouryon.

Both Perkadox® 14 and Trigonox® 101 organic peroxides can be used to enhance the properties of recycled polypropylene. This allows customers to use recycled plastics in applications previously only accessible to virgin plastics.

“This investment supports Nouryon’s strategy of maintaining our leading position in organic peroxides. It also underlines our focus on supporting our customers’ growth and ‘closing the loop’ in plastics. The customer interest in improving the properties of recycled polypropylene continues to rise, in line with increased consumer awareness. This capacity expansion reflects our commitment to serve the entire polymer cycle,” said Alain Rynwalt, Senior Vice President of Polymer Specialties at Nouryon.

Nouryon operates seven production sites in Greater China, among which the Ningbo site is the biggest one which is comprised of seven plants that produce chelates, ethylene amines, cellulose ethers, organic peroxides, surfactants, and expandable microspheres. Globally, Nouryon produces organic peroxides in Asia: Ningbo and Tianjin (China); Asa (Japan) and Mahad (India); Europe: Mons (Belgium); and the Americas: Pasadena (US); Los Reyes (Mexico) and Itupeva (Brazil).
