The Rust-Oleum Group within Medina-based specialty coatings and sealants company RPM International Inc.has a new leader.

RPM announced in a news release on Thursday morning, March 1, that Edward J. Voorhees III, president of Rust-Oleum North America, has taken over as CEO of Rust-Oleum Group effective immediately. He replaces Thomas E. Reed, who becomes chairman ahead of his retirement in September.

Voorhees has been president of Rust-Oleum North America for more than 12 years and has worked at Rust-Oleum for more than 35 years, starting as an East Coast sales representative. In this new role, he “will look to provide the company strategic and tactical direction on a global scale,” RPM said in its release.

Reed, the CEO of Rust-Oleum Group since August 2006, said in a statement that Voorhees is “truly and uniquely qualified to continue to lead the sustained growth that Rust-Oleum has enjoyed over the last decade.”

RPM chairman and CEO Frank C. Sullivan added, “At RPM, we place great emphasis on succession planning for our group and operating company leaders, and anticipate a smooth and seamless transition over the coming weeks. Tom has helped turn Rust-Oleum into one of our best-known consumer brands, and Ed is well suited to continue to lead the business and drive its growth.”

Voorhees earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Adelphi University and completed the executive development program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
