Dean Foods Co. has acquired juice maker Uncle Matt’s Organic. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Founded in 1999 by Matt McLean, Uncle Matt’s Organic offers a range of organic beverages, including probiotic-infused juices and fruit-infused waters. The company will continue operating out of its offices in Clermont, Fla., as a subsidiary of Dean Foods, and Mr. McLean will continue to lead the business.

“Joining Dean Foods allows me to continue to nurture the brand I started nearly 20 years ago,” Mr. McLean said. “Our mission has always been to produce the highest quality organic juices. Becoming part of Dean Foods will allow us to bring organic to consumers at a scale that supports the organic farming community and increasing consumer interests at the same time.”

The acquisition underscores Dean Foods’ commitment to organic. This past November, the company announced a joint venture with Organic Valley to bring organic milk to retailers through Dean Foods’ processing plants and refrigerated direct-store delivery distribution system.

In May, Dean Foods said it had taken a minority stake in Good Karma Foods, a manufacturer of flaxseed-based milk alternatives in such formats as yogurts and beverages.

Ralph Scozzafava, c.e.o. of Dean Foods“As a strong brand in an adjacent category, Uncle Matt’s will play an important role in our growing portfolio of healthy products,” said Ralph Scozzafava, chief executive officer of Dean Foods. “Dean Foods is committed to supporting Uncle Matt’s product innovation efforts and their ongoing development and growth in the natural channel. Moreover, our core strengths in selling and distribution will enable consumers unprecedented access to Uncle Matt’s delicious, on-trend line of products.”
