Altana acquires metallography technology firm

Specialty chemicals firm Altana (Wesel, Germany) has announced the acquisition of Landa Metallography Technology, part of the Landa Group (Rehovot, Israel).

The technology is a novel way to produce metallized graphics as a sustainable alternative to foil-transfer processes, enabling metallization graphics to be produced at up to 50% of the cost of conventional foil stamping, the companies say. The remaining development and engineering work will be transferred by Landa to Altana’s Actega coatings and sealants division, which will bring the technology to market.

“Landa’s metallography technology has the potential to become a sustainable mainstream technology for metallization graphics, supplanting foil transfer in applications such as labels and folding cartons,” says Roland Peter, president of Actega. “The novel metallography technology is both economically attractive and environmentally sustainable, saving a significant amount of material, cost, and production time compared with the conventional cold foil and hot foil stamping technology.”

“[Altana] is also our partner in Landa Digital Printing,” says Benny Landa, chairman and founder of Landa Group. “It will enable Landa to focus on nanography, our breakthrough digital printing technology, while Altana takes over the final development work and commercialization of our metallography technology.”

Further development work, sales, and distribution, will be steered by the newly founded Actega Metal Print (Lehrte, Germany).
