Anchor butter’s owner is investing more than £37million in its UK business in a bid to position itself as the champion of British dairy.

European dairy giant Arla Foods, which is behind Cravendale milk and Skyr yogurt, is upgrading its UK products facilities this year to help it become a household name.

The investment, an increase of 51 per cent on last year, will be spread across Arla’s 13 production, packaging and distribution sites as well as its logistics operations.

The projects will include development of its Taw Valley Creamery in Devon, its processing site in Aylesbury and a packing facility at the Stourton Dairy in Leeds.

Tomas Pietrangeli, Arla’s UK managing director, said: ‘Last year, I unveiled the most ambitious UK business strategy to date to make Arla a household brand by 2020 and grow its revenue by nearly a third.

‘This ambition is part of the company’s global strategy for growth and will position Arla as the champion of British dairy.’

Arla is owned by a co-operative of 12,700 dairy farmers including 2,700 in the UK. The UK figure is part of a £285million investment the firm is making at its sites around the world.
