Dean Foods has reportedly become the focus of a possible takeover bid by Chinese beverage giant Wahaha Group.

According to the Financial Times, executives from Wahaha’s Hongsheng Beverage have recently approached several international banks and private equity funds regarding a possible bid. The report cited unnamed sources who stressed that the talks are at an early stage, even as Wahaha was considering other targets too.

Dean Foods has seen its market value fall sharply since 2013, partly due to spin-offs, such as that of WhiteWave Foods. The company remains the largest dairy processor in the US.

Wahaha produces bottled water, milk, and tea drinks, and generated $7.4bn in sales during 2015.
