A MAJOR food manufacturing company has announced plans to create around 200 jobs at the former S&A Foods site in Derby.
Birmingham-based 2 Sisters Food Group – which has sites across the UK and in Ireland, Netherlands and Poland – purchased the factory in Shaftesbury Street South towards the end of last year.
S&A Foods fell into administration and closed in October with the loss of 300 jobs.
Today, 2 Sisters Food Group announced they will reopen the factory and produce a range of meals including kebabs, Ready to Cook chicken and Ready to Eat chicken.
The first phase of production will begin in mid-March with a further phase of production in late April or early May.
A 2 Sisters spokesman said: “We’re delighted to be able to resurrect this factory and bring new jobs to Derby.
“We will be looking at recruiting approximately 200 people. The recruitment will be phased and individuals will begin to be appointed in February.
“We have a number of roles available including, Production Line Operatives, Machine Minders / Line Leaders, Stores / Dispatch Operatives, Hygiene Operatives and Factory Trainers.”
The news offers hope to the former S&A Foods workers who were made redundant when the factory closed.
There will be two recruitment days. The first one will be on Tuesday, February 2 from 5pm to 6.30pm.
The second one will be held on Thursday, February 4 from 2pm to 3.30pm.
Those who are interested in attending the recruitment days will have to pre-register to attend.
The 2 Sisters spokesman said former S&A Foods staff would be considered for the new roles.
“One of the things that first attracted us to the site was the close proximity to a high calibre, dedicated workforce that we knew would be able to produce some great quality food,” he said.
“There is still a lot of work to be done in the background to make the factory fully operational, but our recruitment days next week demonstrate that we’re getting closer to getting this site up and running again in the very near future.
“Experience of working in a food production environment would be desirable as would be any food safety related qualifications.
“However applications are welcomed from anyone who is hard working, motivated, can work in a fast paced environment and who can work in a team to produce and deliver great quality and great value food.”
The 2 Sisters Food Group was established in West Bromwich in 1993 and employs 23,000 people across sites in the UK, Ireland, Poland and the Netherlands. Two of its products are Fox’s biscuits and Goodfellas pizzas.
