Irish processor Dunbia has confirmed it is considering offers from buyers for the business.

Long-rumoured to be courting purchasers, a spokesman for Dunbia confirmed the business was now “considering options”.
“Dunbia has enjoyed consistent growth over the past number of years and has ambitious plans to grow and expand the business,” the spokesman said. “Market dynamics are continually evolving and we are currently exploring the best options to ensure we are well placed to meet the demands of the marketplace, now and in the future.

“We have received several serious expressions of interest from would-be investors over the past two years and we are now considering options for maximising the potential of the company going forward.”

He added that it remained “business as usual”.

“While we are working on plans for the future, our focus very much remains on day-to-day operations and delivering a first-class service to our customers.”

The company currently has 4,000 staff across the Republic of Ireland and the UK. Pre-tax profits for the company fell £3m in the last financial year.

The business was recently given provisional approval by the Chinese certification agency, the CNCA, to supply pork to China. Dunbia and Karro Food Group are the only two Northern Ireland processors to potentially have access to this lucrative market.
