The outgoing chief executive of Wood Group has been named as the new chairman of Scottish Enterprise.

Industry veteran Bob Keiller, who announced last month he would retire from the top spot at the oil and gas company, will take over from Crawford Gillies next year.

Keiller had previously hinted at new opportunities when his departure was made public and said he had several business interests on the horizon.

He said: “I am looking forward to working with the team at Scottish Enterprise to build on the good work they have been doing and help them to improve even more.

“Scotland needs a vibrant and inclusive economy and Scottish Enterprise has a catalytic part to play in achieving this.”

Keiller will remain in the role for three years, beginning in January next year and ending on December 31, 2018.

He will be replaced in his current role as chief executive of Wood Group by the company’s chief operating officer Robin Watson.

Dr Lena Wilson CBE, chief executive of Scottish Enterprise, said: “I am delighted to welcome Bob as the new chairman of Scottish Enterprise.

“His wealth of leadership and business experience both in Scotland and internationally will be a real asset to our organisation. The team at Scottish Enterprise very much look forward to working with him.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Crawford Gillies for his commitment and leadership over what has been nearly seven years. He has been an outstanding chairman and has helped guide us through some challenging times for Scotland’s economy.”

Keiller has held the position as Wood Group chief executive since 2012 and prior to the role he was the head of Wood Group PSN and the boss of Production Service Network before its acquisition by Wood Group.

He was previously chairman of the OCA (Offshore Contractors Association) the Helicopter Issues Task Group, the Entrepreneurial Exchange and co-Chair of Oil and Gas UK.

Deputy First Minister John Swinney added: “I am delighted that Bob will be joining the Board of Scottish Enterprise, and I know that Scottish Enterprise will benefit from his extensive experience. I wish him well and look forward to working with him.”
